Pacific Visions Grand Opening
Congratulations to Aquarium of the Pacific on the opening of their new Pacific Visions wing! Principal Chris Zadoorian recently attended their grand opening celebration.
GeoDesign’s involvement in Aquarium of the Pacific’s projects has been extensive since 2012, and we’re proud to have been a part of this latest addition. Read on for details about our involvement in AOP’s building projects over the years. For pictures of the grand opening, see our gallery below (additional text and pictures courtesy Chris Zadoorian).
Our initial work included developing a unique foundation design system for a retail store expansion and, most recently, a similarly customized foundation system for the recently completed Pacific Visions expansion. In between, we provided similar support for several smaller internal improvements, including shades structures for exhibits and kiosks.
For the Pacific Visions project, which included a much larger footprint, another soil improvement technique, compaction grouting, was utilized. We designed this system to be compatible with the original stone-column system with respect to soil liquefaction.
The end result of our work on these two primary projects is an apparent contiguous structure that includes three distinct foundation systems that each perform in concert with the other.
