For this $152 million, 177,500-square-foot new hospital development, GeoDesign initially performed a peer review of an existing geotechnical investigation report and, based on the initial data, developed an alternative approach to evaluating liquefaction potential at the site. GeoDesign’s comprehensive, “big picture” approach resulted in a substantially refined foundation system ($1 million in estimated cost savings) and an almost unprecedented approval by the Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development (OSHPD) of the geotechnical design report on the first submittal. This helped the fast-track construction schedule to start on time.

GeoDesign provided geotechnical observation and testing services for the mass grading component of the project and the installation of the drilled shaft foundations, which included developing a detailed quality assurance and quality control plan required by the State for hospital projects.

We also provided geotechnical and construction support for a $15-million, 30,000-square-foot first-floor addition to the hospital.
